About Restylane and Juvederm
Restylane and Juvederm are cosmetic fillers made from hyaluronic
acid, a naturally-occuring substance that provides fullness and volume
to our skin. Both Restylane and Juvederm are made synthetically in the
laboratory and therefore have little or no risk of transmitting
animal-based disease or allergy. What is especially appealing about
hyaluronic acid is that it has been reported to last six to nine
months. Restylane or Juvederm may be used to correct facial wrinkles and
to add fullness to the lips.
Dr. Torkian also
has extensive experience in the use of Restylane and Juvederm in the
lower eyelid region to improve hollowing which may lead to the early
appearance of "bags" in the lower eyelid region. This non-surgical
treatment is particularly useful in younger patients with the appearance
of lower eyelid bags as in the example patients depicted to the right.
Radiesse
Radiesse is an injectable filler that is used for correction of deeper
wrinkles and skin defects and may last up to one year.
More recently, this filler is being used with great success as a filler
in the cheeks, with results similar to a cheek implant!
Radiesse is made of very tiny, smooth calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA)
microspheres. The microspheres (particles) form a scaffold through which
your body?s own collagen grows, and this produces the long-term effect.
Radiesse is especially effective for improving the nasolabial folds or
"smile lines." Radiesse in injected with local anesthesia in the office,
and produces immediate results. There is no significant patient
downtime.
BOTOX
Botox? is a naturally-occuring substance which has revolutionized our
ability to treat deeper "motion wrinkles" of the face. Botox? works by
decreasing the activity of muscles which produce these wrinkles. The
main areas treated include the forehead lines, the frown lines between
our eyebrows, and the "crow's feet" lines around the eyes. When used
appropriately, botox is quite safe, and has recently been FDA approved
for treatment of frown lines. Effects generally last four to six months.
